Employees failed to get vaccinated

ASHEVILLE ? Three Mission Hospital employees have chosen unemployment over a flu shot.

The hospital said three employees were let go after failing to comply with a new policy requiring all staff, students, vendors, medical staff and volunteers to get a flu shot.

All of Mission's 6,300 employees had until Dec. 1 to get vaccinated. Employees were given the option of applying for a medical or religious exemption to the rule.

Fourteen employees were suspended without pay after failing to get the shot by the deadline and had until Dec. 15 to get the shot or be fired. Of the 14, 11 decided to get the shot and remain employed, while three others refused to get vaccinated and lost their jobs...
