Posted by David Forbes in News | 1 hour, 49 minutes ago

Buncombe County's special needs registry is now available online, and citizens can add information to it from their computers as well. Full announcement below:

The Special Needs Registry provides vital information to emergency responders in the event of a 911 call and/or during a widespread disaster (hurricane, flood, blizzard, extended power outage, disease outbreak). Citizens can fill out the form on-line at buncombecounty.org. Citizens must print out the form, sign and return to

Special Needs Registry
Buncombe County Emergency Services
164 Erwin Hills Rd
Asheville, NC 28806.

This program is voluntary and individuals on the registry have the option to accept or deny assistance. If there is a disaster or emergency, those on the Special Needs Registry may be contacted, asked how they are doing, given information about shelters, or how to prepare or respond to the disaster.

The Buncombe County Special Needs Registry is available for Buncombe County residents who have special medical needs such as:
? Require assistance with daily living activities (dressing, bathing, toileting, etc); or
? Require clinical observation; or
? Have a chronic or continuous contagious condition ( Tuberculosis); or
? Are elderly, disabled and /or homebound; and
? Do NOT live in a Skilled Nursing Facility (Nursing Homes are required to have an emergency plan)
Everyone should remember that:

preparation is a key for all of us in coping with an emergency; there is little time to get supplies and create a plan when a disaster strikes...
