[h=1]Important Public Health Notice to the UNB Community[/h] Posted by UNB The University of New Brunswick has been advised by New Brunswick?s Public Health Office (Public Health) that a student on its Fredericton campus has recently been diagnosed with measles.
The University and the affected student are cooperating with Public Health in their investigation and management of this case. The student in question was not a member of the residence community, is currently receiving treatment and is doing well.
Those known to have been in direct contact with the student have been notified, however, as a precaution, we would ask that the UNB community refer to the information and chart below which lists times, dates and locations where contact with the affected student may have occurred. According to Public Health officials, the risk of contracting measles in this situation is low, but if you are experiencing symptoms as outlined below, we encourage you to contact Public Health.

UNB is committed to keeping our community informed, and as such, will be providing updates as they become available from Public Health.
Anyone with questions or concerns is encouraged to contact Public Health?s communicable diseases office at 506-444-5905 during working hours, or Telecare (811) after hours. The UNB community may also contact UNB Student Health Centre at 506-453-4837.

Measles spreads between people by droplets from coughs and sneezes. Measles first causes symptoms like the common cold with cough, runny nose and sore eyes. Then people with measles develop a fever and a rash that spreads from their face down to their body. If you develop symptoms like those described in the fact sheet, please stay home from work or school and call public health at 444-5905. If you have been in the locations at the times below, you need to watch for measles symptoms until April 20, 2017.
