The often fatal lung disease caused by New World hantaviruses is rare. But, as a recent outbreak of the rodent-borne illness among visitors to California's Yosemite National Park has underscored, treatment is no walk in the woods. There are currently no specific medical countermeasures designed to combat the viral infection.?
