The entire district DVOs are reminded to issue necessary direction to their subordinate officers and staff in-charge of veterinary institutions, to collect 20 serum samples every month from their districts.
The serum samples must be submitted to the Elisa lab in Kohima through a special messenger on or before the fifth of every month positively. The samples are for submission to the North Eastern Regional Disease Diagnostic laboratory in Guwahati.
The directorate also reminded that Nagaland state shares its borders with Assam ? where the dreaded avian influenza is spreading. The DVOs are directed to remain in active surveillance for immediate response to unusual sickness or high mortality in poultry and wild birds within 24 hours of occurrence. ?In case of suspected attack of avian influenza, report immediately to the higher authority and also collect the samples as per the guidelines of action-plan.
