RALEIGH ? North Carolina's weekly death toll from flu has dropped to its lowest level in two months, according to figures compiled by the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services.

Four people across the state died last week from complications of flu, according to data released Thursday morning. That's the lowest weekly toll since mid-December...

...In all, 81 people in North Carolina have succumbed to complications of the flu this year.

Three more people die of flu in NC, but death rate continues to decline



RALEIGH ? Three more people died of the flu in North Carolina last week, the smallest number in more than two months and a sign that the illness in waning.

Deaths from the flu peaked in late January, when 12 were reported during a one-week span, according to the state Department of Health and Human Services. Altogether, 85 people in North Carolina have died from complications of the flu since late November,.

The majority of deaths, 61, were among people between the ages of 24 and 65. That age range is generally more vulnerable to the H1N1 strain of the flu virus that has dominated this season.

Nineteen of those who have died were age 65 or older, and 5 were under age 18.
