ERODE: The District Collector has despatched a medical team to Modakurichi, following complaints that a mysterious fever has been making the rounds in many villages in the block.

Over 200 persons in over 10 villages in Modakurichi block have been affected with the fever in the last few days and most of them have not responded to treatment. A similar fever was doing the rounds at the Sathy block a few days ago.

The Collector also discussed the issue with the joint director and the deputy director for health.

?They felt that the symptoms of the fever is similar to chikungunya as the people told the doctors that they were suffering from joint pains,? the Collector said, adding that the medical team will be able to give a clear picture after screening the affected people in the villages.

The health and local body officials were also told to take precautionary measures to check the spread of the disease, he said.
