Dengue fever kills eight in Yangon in five months

In the first five months of 2019, there were 670 reported dengue transmission cases and eight deaths in Yangon Region, said Dr. Myo Thant , deputy head of the Yangon Region Public Health Department.

Among the deaths were the adult in addition to children under 15...

...In Myanmar, 192 out of 31,288 people infected with DHF died in 2017. In the first six months in 2018, eight out of over 4,000 people infected with DHF died, according to the Ministry of Health and Sports.

A total of 112 out of 23,000 people infected with DHF died in 2018.

Till the first week of June since January, there were over 3,100 dengue fever cases and 12 reported deaths across the country. The spread of DHF is not at an epidemic level, according to the knowledge sharing and workshop on the preventive measures against dengue fever.

Hanoi (VNA) ? Dengue fever killed 48 people and infected 10,757 others across Myanmar in the past seven months, said the Public Health Department under Myanmar Ministry of Health and Sports on August 14.

As of July 27, Ayeyarwady region registered highest number of infection cases with 1,974 cases and five deaths, followed by Yangon region with 1,788 cases and 15 deaths, the department's figures showed...

YANGON, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- The total death toll of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) has risen to 107 in Myanmar in the first nine months this year, according to the figures released by the Ministry of Health and Sports on Thursday.

From January to Sept. 21 this year, a total of 18,320 people were infected by the mosquito-borne disease across the country, the ministry's Public Health Department said.

Regionally, Kachin state registered the highest infection with 2,904 cases and 29 deaths, followed by Ayeyarwady region with 2,631 cases, 11 deaths and others.

Meanwhile, 24 deaths were registered in Yangon region where 2,464 people were infected.

Dengue fever transmission declines

High dengue fever cases are reported every other year but outbreaks of dengue from 2015 to 2018 have declined, according to the figures from the Ministry of Health and Sports.

Till September 21 this year, 2,464 dengue cases and 24 dengue-related deaths were reported in Yangon.

Dr. Nay Yi Yi Lin, Project Manager of Dengue Prevention and Control Project said: “Kachin, Ayeywady and Yangon see the highest number of dengue deaths. In 2018, 3,649 dengue cases and 25 dengue-related deaths were reported in Yangon. The dengue transmission and death toll among children aged between five and nine is the highest. We are always monitoring the dengue transmissions. Between mid-June and September, outbreaks of dengue fever increased. It is a common dengue peak season in a year.”

At least 123 die of dengue in Myanmar

The death toll of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever has surged to 123 across Myanmar in 11 months, said figures released by the ministry of health and sports on Monday.

The public health department under the ministry issued that 23,203 mosquito-borne disease infection cases were recorded in Myanmar’s regions and states from January 1 to November 23 this year.

During the period, the DHF infection mostly occurred in Kachin state, Yangon, Ayeyarwady, Mandalay and Sagaing regions.

Of them, Kachin state topped with 4,222 infection cases and 30 deaths, followed by Yangon region with 2,804 cases and 33 deaths...

Dr. Nay Yi Yi Lin, the project manager of fight and control of DHF said: “Dengue cases and deaths are reported mostly in Kachin, Ayeyawady and Yangon. Last year, there were 3,649 dengue cases and 25 deaths in Yangon. The transmission rate and fatality rates among children aged between five and nine is the highest. The department is always monitoring the spread of dengue fever. The dengue transmission usually peaks from mid-June to September every year.”...
