Dengue fever outbreak in Arakan: 5 children die so far

A 3rd standard student died of dengue fever today in Kang Nan Taung village under Ponna Kyunt township of Rakhine State.

The victim is identified as Ma Swe Swe Oo, an 8-year-old student. She died on way to Sittwe general hospital from her village at around 1:30 pm on 15 July, said a relative.

"That child was sick from yesterday. She was taken to the hospital with dengue fever and died on her way to Sittwe general hospital by acar," he added.

Her body was already brought back to the village for burial.

On 13 July, a 13 year-old girl, who was attending middle school from Thaydaw village under Ponna Kyunt township and a 1-year-old boy from Myat Lay IDP camp died of dengue fever...​

YANGON, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar saw a sharp decline in dengue fever cases and fatalities this year, with 6,685 cases and 30 deaths reported as of July 15, according to the Ministry of Health.

While the country was previously among those with the highest dengue fever infections in Southeast Asia, this year's numbers are notably lower compared to the infections reported last year, said the ministry on Friday.​..
