MUMBAI (Reuters) - Shares on the benchmark BSE index recovered some ground on Monday as trade resumed after an hour's halt following a more than 10 percent slide.
The BSE index was down 5.77 percent at 10,307.61 points at 12:58 p.m. The index had fallen 10.16 percent to 9,826.91 points, falling below 10,000 for the first in three months, when trading was halted at 11:55 a.m.
The 50-share NSE index was down 6.64 percent at 3,031.15, recouping from a 10.79 percent fall to 2,896.45 when trading was suspended.
Trade will be halted for an hour if either index falls by another 5 percent before 2 p.m., according to a statement on the BSE Web site. If the decline occurs after 2 p.m., trading will be halted for the remainder of the day.
In case of a 20 percent fall, trading will be halted for the remainder of the day.
