Poultry: several measures are taken to limit the effects of influenza
Avian low pathogenicity on poultry farms.

As part of the health monitoring of the national poultry flock ensured by the Office
Health Safety National Food Products, clinical investigations
and / or laboratory conducted in nearly 800 poultry farms located in
across the country have confirmed the presence, for the first time, the virus
low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) subtype H9N2 at 30
poultry units. This virus is known by its low virulence and exists in several countries
North Africa, the Middle East, Asia and some European countries.

Infection with this virus causes a low mortality, a fall of immunity and
decrease in production performance in poultry (egg drop, loss
weight); which explains the upward trend of prices of eggs and chicken
flesh observed in recent days on the national market.

To face this situation, an action plan was developed by ONSSA in
consultation with the Interprofessional Federation of the poultry sector and experts
sector.

The plan aims in the short term to limit the impact of the disease to reduce
mortality and reduced performance, through:

 the implementation of preventive vaccination for all poultry farms (y
including chicken meat) against the H9N2 virus. In this context, the permissions
needed was given to the veterinary pharmaceutical
to proceed with the import of the vaccine that will be available from the
next week.

 strengthening biosecurity and hygiene at farm level
poultry, including poultry transport, in collaboration with

In the medium term, the plan is to master the risk factors that are causing the
spread of this disease in many parts of the country including:

table eggs and any food product in poultry meat do not present
any risk for the population.
