The infection rate was 24.7 cases per 10,000 students, a 15 percent increase over the previous week's rate, according to the weekly report of the American College Health Association.

About 91 percent of the 267 colleges and universities reporting to the group said they had new cases last week. There were 10 hospitalizations and no deaths. Cumulatively, there have been more than 21,000 cases and 37 hospitalizations reported to the agency.

There were significant increases in disease activity in the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, Northeast and Rocky Mountain regions but little on the West Coast other than in Washington.

KNOXVILLE (AP) -- University of Tennessee health officials have sent a few medical samples to Nashville for swine flu testing after 100 students reported flu-like symptoms.

Officials say they believe the flu-like symptoms to be cases of swine flu because they're spreading much earlier in the school year than seasonal flu. Classes began on Aug. 19.

The university sent an email to all students advising anyone who experienced symptoms such as fever, headache, body aches, coughing and sore throat to stay at home or in their dorms until after the symptoms cease.

Students are also being advised not to visit UT's student health center unless they experience more severe symptoms like vomiting or difficulty breathing.

Health officials said results of the swine flu testing could take weeks.
