Hospitals? plea: Don?t come to ER for simple cold or flu

There?s so much flu and gastro-distress out there this holiday season that the Lakeshore General Hospital has a notice on its answering machine warning people not to visit loved ones in the hospital if they themselves are suffering.
And not to clog up the emergency department if they have sick stomachs.
Instead, the West Island hospital is referring callers to 811, the nurse-staffed health referral network...
