The presence of avian influenza virus-bird flu-subtype H5N1 in wild birds has been confirmed in dead pelicans in the Pancevo Oka reserve, in the Skadar Lake National Park.

Sampling was performed by the Veterinary Clinic Ibričevina d.o.o. in cooperation with an ornithologist. Appropriate samples for laboratory testing were taken and submitted to the Specialist Veterinary Laboratory in Podgorica...

On April 4th 2022, ten dead Pelecanus crispus were found, five of them were in stage of decomposition. They were found in Panceva oka in National Park Skadar Lake. On April 6th 2022, Specialist Diagnostic Laboratory performed analysis of cloacal and tracheal swabs and H5N1 was confirmed.
