Florence, MONT. -- Florence-Carlton School Administrators say they are shutting down all three schools in Florence after 110 students called in sick.

Superintendent John McGee says several students went home sick on Wednesday, but on Thursday morning, that number rose to more than 10 percent of the student body.

County health officials believe the cause of the sickness is an influenza outbreak.

HAMILTON ? A gastrointestinal virus believed to be responsible for symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea for at least 50 residents and staff at a Hamilton nursing home has been confirmed to be norovirus.

Ravalli County public health director Judy Griffin said samples sent to the state health lab by Valley View Estates were norovirus. Signs of the illness first emerged Nov. 24 and the situation has been under observation by the Ravalli County Public Health Department ever since.

?No new residents are ill, and staff who were ill are beginning to return to work,? Griffin said. ?Valley View remains vigilant, and still has restrictions on visitors to the facility, and it?s likely it will be a while before those are lifted.?
