SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — San Francisco Supervisor Rafael Mandelman and other community leaders held a press conference on Tuesday, calling for more doses of the vaccine for residents amid an increase in monkeypox cases in the city.

On Tuesday, the total number of reported cases of monkeypox among San Francisco residents reached 60.

These include both probable cases, as well as cases confirmed to be monkeypox by the CDC.
City leaders are asking the CDC and the Department of Health and Human Services to conduct a more aggressive vaccination campaign for at-risk populations.

“The insufficient federal response reflects institutional insensitivity to issues that affect gay and bisexual men and trans people,” Mandelman tweeted Tuesday.

San Francisco Director of Public Health Dr. Grant Colfax said the city is requesting 35,000 doses of the vaccine from the state to meet the surge in demand with the broader goal of bringing the vaccine to market. available to anyone who wants it.
