Monkey Pox Truth versus Fearporn.

I really like his delivery everytime I watch an interview or read an essay. He sticks to the known facts, incorporates some history, and adds science. I agree with his conclusion in this case.

I think we should be aware of what is happening and continue to follow the developments.

We don't know the CFR of the virus causing this outbreak. It is reasonable to assume that the CFR of monkeypox overall in Africa might be 1-3%, and to assume the virus that caused the 2003 outbreak in the US might also be about 1% (no one died, but 5 of perhaps 70 cases ended up in the ICU). If this virus has a CFR in that range, it's more severe than COVID.

But we've had 400 confirmed cases so far, and only one case (a child in England) is seriously ill. If the Senegalese outbreak really is due to this strain of monkeypox, with over 1000 cases and no deaths, this is not a 1% fatality rate virus. This outbreak certainly raises the possibility that the virus has gained an increased transmission rate in exchange for a decreased lethality. Are we missing milder cases as well? I'm not sure.

Both the rate and method of spread, as well as the fatality rate of this virus are complete unknowns at this time, and the correct response to this virus depends greatly on their answers.
 
In this outbreak there are approximately 400 cases and no deaths so far - a case fatality rate of zero. Will this hold? I have no idea. It appears that the age group who has contracted the disease is mostly working age adults. What happens in children, or at risk adults remains to be seen.

We are closely following developments but since we do not generate "news" for clicks, we are going with the facts.
 
I haven't found a good source to verify the story about an infected child. The rumor might have started in a Telegraph article, but it just said it was reported with no source - not even an anonymous source. Then a couple of tabloids batted the rumor around, one referring to the vague Telegraph article. The rumor then got spun around from there. I wonder what's going on?
