More than 20 cases of bird flu were recorded in Moldova

25 cases of bird flu (H5N1) were registered in Moldova in less than two weeks, the press service of the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) reported.

"From December 22, 2023 to January 2, 2024, ten cases of H5N1 and 15 cases of wild birds were recorded on the territory of the republic in non-professional farms. 3-kilometer protection zones and 10-kilometer surveillance zones were established," the agency's website says.

At the same time, the agency reported that rabies was detected in cattle in the Rezina district of Moldova, and in wild foxes in the Edinet district.
"The corpses of diseased animals were destroyed by cremation... Measures are being taken to control and eliminate the spread of the disease," the message states.

ANSA Moldova urged poultry farmers and breeders to keep poultry indoors and report flu-like symptoms immediately. Citizens were asked to pay attention to poultry in farms and private plots in order to detect clinical signs of the disease in time.​

EPIDEMIOLOGICAL COMMENTS
Following the detection of outbreaks of Avian Influenza, surveillance actions of domestic birds from non-professional and commercial holdings, including sampling for antibody detection, were initiated. Thus, antibodies to Avian Influenza were detected in 2 non-professional holdings. All birds from these 2 non-professional holdings are to be killed, and surfaces cleaned and disinfected.
