Moldova is grappling with its most severe African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak to date, resulting in the culling of approximately 118,000 pigs—about 20% of the nation’s pig population. The outbreak, which began in early 2025, has affected around 30 locations, including two major commercial farms.

Major Outbreak at Roscani Farm

One of the most significant incidents occurred at a large-scale farm near the village of Roscani in the Anenii Noi district. This facility housed approximately 65,000 pigs. Following the detection of ASF through laboratory tests, authorities implemented strict quarantine measures and initiated mass culling to prevent further spread.

Widespread Impact Across Regions

The ASF outbreaks have been reported in various parts of Moldova. Notably, the village of Radeni Vechi in the Ungheni district confirmed cases in domestic pigs, while nine wild boars were found dead in the Straseni municipality, indicating the virus’s presence in both domestic and wild swine populations...
