KUALA LUMPUR: The number of Influenza A (H1N1) positive cases registered a 31.9 per cent drop last week compared with the previous week said Director-general of Health Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican.

According to a statement from the Health Ministry, last week (June 13-19) 81 A(H1N1) positive cases were recorded, compared with 119 the previous week, he said.

"With the 81 new cases, the overall total of A(H1N1) positive cases has increased to 15,152 but no deaths were reported as the total remained at 88," said Dr Ismail in the statement.


He added that during the same period seven Influenza Like Illness (ILI) cluster cases were detected in four states, namely Kedah, Selangor, Johor and Melaka.

The number of ILI cases treated at hospitals throughout the country also dropped from 771 to 586 (24 per cent), he said.

"As of June 19, a total of 404 ILI cases were being treated at 55 hospitals throughout the country, including 11 private hospitals," he said.


Meanwhile, the statement also said that 350,760 frontline staff of government agencies such as police, immigration, fire and rescue department who are under the high-risk category, and members of the public, had been vaccinated.- Bernama
