A 40 year old male with no risk factors have been experiencing symptoms of fever and cough for six days before confinement Queen Bainun, Ipoh on 27 April 2010. He was treated in the intensive care unit, respiratory problems due to severe pneumonia and died on May 1, 2010. 73 New H1N1 Cases Reported Nationwide Yesterday


PUTRAJAYA, May 7 (Bernama) -- Seventy-three new Influenza A (H1N1) cases were detected nationwide, until yesterday afternoon, raising the total number of cases to 13,962.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican however, said no deaths were recorded, since the number of deaths remained at 82.

According to Dr Mohd Ismail, 616 Influenza Like Illness (ILI) were being treated in hospitals nationwide and of that total, 92 cases had tested positive for H1N1.

"Ten cases are being treated in the intensive care unit while eight have high risk factors," he said in a statement here on Friday.

Dr Mohd Ismail reminded the public that the H1N1 pandemic was still active and advised those with symptoms of ILI to immediately seek treatment from the nearest clinic, adding that the public should continue to be cautious and take preventive measures.

"Those with ILI symptoms like fever, cough, cold or throat pain should stay away from public functions and public areas," he said.

Influenza A(H1N1): 9 more ILI cases

PUTRAJAYA: Nine reports of influenza-like-illness (ILI) cluster cases were received by the Health Ministry from 8am yesterday till 8am today.


The cases were reported to have occurred in seven states, namely Johor, Perak, Kelantan, Pahang, Negri Sembilan, Malacca and Penang.

In Perak, one case was reported in Kampung Teluk Kepayang, while in Kelantan, two cases were reported namely at the Pasir Mas National Service Training Camp and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Gual Periok, Pasir Mas.

Two cases were reported in Taman Skudai Baru, Johor Baru and the Tun Hussein Onn Teacher Training Institute in Batu Pahat.

One case was reported each at SMK Kuala Repas Bentong, Pahang; Sekolah Menengah Rendah Agama Repah, Negri Sembilan; Felda Kemendor Jasin, Malacca; and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Chin Shih Chung in Sungai Nibong, Penang.

Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican in a statement here today, said that at present, 659 ILI cases were being treated at hospitals nationwide.


Of the total, he said 110 tested positive for influenza A (H1N1).

PUTRAJAYA: Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican today urged people with influenza-like illness (ILI) to be responsible and avoid going to public places and crowded areas such as schools to curb the spread of Influenza A (H1N1).

"Parents also need to ensure children with ILI remain at home while trainers at National Service (NS) camps should isolate the affected trainees.

"If it is absolutely necessary to go out, they should wear surgical masks and practise good hygiene to avoid infecting other people," he said in a statement.
Dr Mohd Ismail said until 5.30pm yesterday, 41 new H1N1 cases were reported, bringing the total to 14,033.

He said 655 ILI cases were still being treated nationwide, of which 14.5 per cent or 95 cases were confirmed positive for Influenza A (H1N1).

Until 8am today, a total of four ILI clusters were reported in three states, with 22 cases at the Merang Suria NS training camp in Setiu, Terengganu, 15 cases at the Cheneh Cemerlang NS camp in Kemaman, Terengganu, 13 cases at the Tangkas NS camp in Kuala Kangsar, Perak and three cases at the District Health Office in Batu Pahat, Johor.

PUTRAJAYA: Health authorities recorded 34 new cases of Influenza A (H1N1) over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of people to have been infected with the deadly flu to 14,067 since the pandemic broke last year.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said a total of 671 patients were currently being treated in hospitals for Influenza-like illness (ILI) of which 12 were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

?I would like to remind the public that it is their social responsibility not to frequent public places if they are down with ILI. Those who are ill must remain indoors and away from crowd to prevent more people from falling ill.

?The Health Ministry is urging the public to be conscientious and take necessary precaution if they really need to get out of the house,? he said Monday.

Dr Ismail reminded those who were down with ILI to ensure they wear face masks when stepping out of the house, adding the public should also practice good hygiene to prevent themselves from getting sick.

He also said that two ILI cluster cases were reported in Selangor and Terengganu, adding two members of a family in Section BS 8 in Bukit Sentosa, Selangor and eight students from Kolej Islam Teknologi in Terengganu were down with ILI.

Dr Mohd Ismail said the spread of the illness was most prevalent in crowded places.


He said to curb the spread effectively it was very important that those who had symptoms of ILI like fever, cough, flu and sore throat not go to such places.

"If they have ILI symptoms and have to to go out they are advised to wear face masks and practice good hygiene habits. This is very important to prevent the spread to others," he said.

A(H1N1): 6 new clusters of flu-like illnesses detected

PUTRAJAYA: Six new clusters of Influenza-like Illness (ILI) were detected in Kuala Lumpur and five states as of 8am Tuesday, Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican said Wednesday.

The states are Kedah, Terengganu, Pahang, Penang and Melaka, he added.

He said that up to 5.30pm Tuesday, the cumulative ILI cases under treatment in hospitals nationwide stood at 713.

Of the total, 131 cases were positively confirmed as Influenza A (H1N1), he said.

"There are 13 cases in intensive care and nine of them are in the risk category," he said in a statement.

He also said that as of 5.30pm Tuesday, 64 cases of H1N1 were reported, taking the cumulative total to 14,202 so far.

52 H1N1 Cases Reported Over 24 Hours Up To Yesterday Evening


PUTRAJAYA, May 13 (Bernama) -- Fifty- two cases of Influenza A (H1N1) were reported over the 24 hours up to yesterday evening, taking the cumulative total to 14,524 so far, Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican said Thursday.

He said in a statement that 674 cases of Influenza-like Illness (ILI) were under treatment nation-wide, with 74 of them confirmed as H1N1 cases.

Thirteen cases were under treatment in intensive care, with nine of them categorised as high-risk cases, he added.

"The ministry wishes to remind the people that H1N1 is still active in the community and it can spread easily in congested areas.

"In order to check the spread of the disease effectively, it is most important that those with ILI symptoms refrain from going to such places and seek treatment immediately at the nearest clinic," he said.

Dr Mohd Ismail said early treatment was vital to prevent complications and death.

"People with ILI symptoms are asked to always wear face masks and observe good personal hygiene," he said.

On the H1N1 vaccine, he said it was given on a first-come, first-served basis because of limited supply.

"Up to yesterday, there was a balance of about 130,000 doses of the H1N1 vaccine available nation-wide," he said.

19 More Persons Confirmed Positive For H1n1

PUTRAJAYA, May 15 (Bernama) -- Nineteen more persons were confirmed positive for Influenza A (H1N1) as of 5.30pm Friday bringing the total of people with the disease in the country to 14,326.

Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican, said the number of people being treated in hospitals for influenza-like-illness (ILI) was 606.

"Of that total, 80 have been confirmed positive for H1N1. The number of cases in intensive care units is 12 and nine of them have risk factors," he said in a statement here Saturday.

He said as of 8am today eight cases of ILI cluster cases were detected in Kelantan, Negeri Sembilan, Perak and Selangor.

"The Ministry of Health reminds people that spread of the virus occurs easily in crowded places.

"To prevent this effectively it is important that those with ILI symptoms avoid going to public places," he said.
