Goodhue County coroner Lindsey Thomas gave commissioners on Tuesday an update on the Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner?s Office in Hastings.

The office provides medical examiner services to eight counties and has been working recently with nearby Dakota County on pandemic influenza planning. The county and medical examiner?s office have been trying to determine places for temporary body storage in the event of a pandemic, Thomas.

Officials from the medical examiner?s office will be working with other counties on pandemic planning in the future.

Thomas also said that a recently completed study indicated the medical examiner?s office may need to increase its staff to handle the increasing number of deaths expected between now and 2015.
