St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - State officials have confirmed the presence of bird flu in two more poultry flocks in Minnesota.

The Minnesota Board of Animal Health says the highly pathogenic avian influenza was detected in poultry owned by a backyard producer in Stearns County on Wednesday and in a commercial turkey meat-producing operation in adjoining Morrison County on Thursday. The Morrison County flock has around 52,000 turkeys, while the backyard producer in Stearns County has around 115 birds...

(KNSI) – The highly contagious bird flu spreads to more commercial turkey farms in Minnesota. The Board of Animal Health says the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has now turned up in Morrison, Becker, Dodge and LeSueur County.

HPAI was first found on poultry farms in Meeker and Mower County on March 25th. The virus was then found in Stearns, Kandiyohi, and Lac Qui Parle County. Animal health officials said the virus has spread in Stearns and Kandiyohi County, going from one infected site in each county to three.

Last week, Stearns County had one commercial flock of 23,738 turkeys infected. This week, a second commercial turkey operation with 28,000 birds tested positive and a backyard producer with 115 birds found the virus in its flock. Another 89,000 turkeys on two commercial sites in Kandiyohi County were also added to the list...

WILLMAR — A fourth commercial turkey flock in Kandiyohi County is confirmed infected with avian influenza, one of two additional sites in Minnesota identified Tuesday in the state Board of Animal Health's daily web update.

The diagnosis of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza was confirmed April 4 in the flock of 20,450 breeder hens in Kandiyohi County. The infection of 34,000 meat turkeys in Morrison County, the second infection site in that county, also was confirmed April 4 and reported Tuesday.

Tuesday's update from the Board of Animal Health showed that a Dodge County site, which had been listed Monday as quarantined but not yet confirmed, received a confirmed diagnosis on April 3.

The Board of Animal Health web page on the avian flu response at bah.state.mn.us/hpai is updated each weekday. The new sites reported Tuesday bring the total infected sites in Minnesota to 15 and the number of affected birds to 636,648...

WILLMAR, Minn. — New confirmations of avian flu in Minnesota bring the number of infection sites to 34.

According to the state Board of Animal Health, H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza was confirmed Tuesday and announced Wednesday in five additional commercial poultry operations, and one backyard producer of 126 birds in Benton County.

Three of the additional sites are in Morrison County: a flock of 45,000 meat turkeys, a flock of 43,286 broiler chickens and a flock of 214,277 table egg layers. That county now has seven sites of infection and more than half a million birds affected...

There are now more than 1.8 million birds that are in the process of being euthanized in Minnesota due to the rampant spread of avian influenza. That up from 1.1 million just over a week ago.

According to the Board of Animal Health, there are 38 commercial or public poultry flocks that have confirmed highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) spreading within. Those 38 sites are home to 1,842,860 birds, all of which will be killed to prevent further spread of the disease.

The 38 sites and size of each flock can be found in the Board of Animal Health report here. The bird flu is now confirmed at sites in 17 Minnesota counties.

A 20,000-bird commercial meat turkey flock in Blue Earth County is the second site for that county, and Meeker County reported a 73,207-bird commercial meat turkey flock to mark its third affected site.

The vast majority of infections in Minnesota have been in commercial meat turkey operations. Other production types with confirmed diagnoses, according to the Board of Animal Health, have been three commercial turkey breeder hen flocks, all located in Kandiyohi County; two commercial chicken operations in Morrison County — one broiler flock and one egg layer flock; and four backyard producers...

WILLMAR — The number of avian flu infection sites in Minnesota now stands at 62 heading into the weekend, with more than 2.7 million birds affected since March, most of them commercially raised turkeys.

Two new confirmations — backyard flocks of 20 and 16 birds, respectively, in Carver and Swift counties — were announced as of Friday's noon update from the state Board of Animal Health.

WILLMAR — Minnesota continues to add to its list of avian flu infection sites — with 66 confirmed sites — while the number of birds affected has not changed drastically since last week.

Three of the four new sites announced by the Minnesota Board of Animal Health since last week were small backyard producers, including two in Chisago County. Flocks of 55 and 30 unspecified poultry were confirmed April 30, the first sites in that county.

Morrison County has its 12th infection site, this one a backyard producer of 40 birds confirmed April 30.

Stearns County now has a ninth site of infection, a commercial turkey flock of 10,000 breeder hens confirmed infected April 29.

(KNSI) — The Minnesota Board of Animal Health says there are now 68 sites in Minnesota reporting highly pathogenic avian influenza infections.

The board says 2.72 million birds have been affected across 22 counties.

There are 35 sites across Benton, Kandiyohi, Meeker, Morrison, and Stearns Counties affecting backyard flocks and commercial meat, breeder, and egg operations. When a bird flu infection has been identified, the flock is depopulated to prevent sick animals from entering the food supply. There is a low risk of humans contracting avian influenza. Experts say poultry and poultry products are safe to consume...
