Missouri issues emergency rule to expand testing for bird flu

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The State of Missouri has issued an emergency rule that hopes to curb the spread of avian influenza.

The emergency rule under the Department of Agriculture’s Animal Health Division establishes new testing standards for avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu. The ruling allows for laboratories that can test for various avian illnesses and prevent the need to ship testing out of state. It also waves the fees associated with the testing.

The Missouri Department of Agriculture said that no facilities currently exist in the state that can test for certain avian viruses, including avian metapneumovirus A/B, metapneumovirus C, and egg drop syndrome virus. ...
