Flu cases are skyrocketing in Greene County leading to long hospital wait times

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - There’s a huge uptick in flu cases across Greene County, and hospitals are extremely busy.

According to data from the Springfield-Greene County Health Department, there were 397 flu cases during the week of January 18. The numbers increased to 698 flu cases the following week.

“The numbers here have certainly spiked over the last 12 to 14 days,” said CoxHealth Doctor Jamie Jones.

Flu cases surge in St. Louis County, raising health concerns

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – Concerns about flu activity are rising as reported cases reach significant levels in St. Louis County and other surrounding areas.

Through January 4th, overall flu activity in St. Louis County is considered very high, although recent reports show a decline in cases compared to the prior week.

During the last week, there were 1,653 laboratory positive flu cases reported in the county. School officials have reported two flu-like outbreaks at elementary schools amid the rising numbers.

Statewide, the Missouri Department of Health reports that flu cases remain very high, with a total of six flu-associated deaths recorded across the state
