Minsa maintains yellow alert in areas with possible second wave of influenza A H1N1 pandemic
Lima, nov. 11 (ANDINA) .- The Ministry of Health (MOH) decided to maintain in a state of yellow alert all health facilities within the country, at the recommendation of the World Health Organization (WHO) to continue prevention efforts against a possible second wave of pandemic influenza A H1N1.
This is provided Ministerial Resolution No. 755-2009-MINSA, published today in the journal of Legal Rules, the Official Journal El Peruano, with heading the Health Minister Oscar Ugarte, and with the technical opinion of the General Office of National Defense ( OGDN) and the Department of Epidemiology (DGE).
Thus, the regional directorates of Health will continue with actions to prevent and control this virus.
The yellow alert is set when no information on the likely occurrence of an adverse event or destructive, that determines which health departments are prepared to carry out specific tasks and self help.
For establishments in Lima and Callao, Minsa ordered that pass green alert status due to the obvious decrease the transmission of the epidemic in this part of the country, but preventive measures will continue.
The green alert indicates that health facilities remain in a state of anticipation of the possible occurrence of an adverse event or destructive, that determines which health units are ready.
The OGDN establishes three levels of health alert in the country: green, yellow and red, each with concrete action. Its force is monitored as it evolves and changes the problem to be faced.
Technical teams from the countries of North, Central and South participated in the virtual eve of a meeting organized by WHO and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) on "Preparing for Pandemic Influenza vaccination in the Americas" , which were finalized details regarding the purchase of vaccines, benchmarks for implementation, among other factors.
Minister Ugarte, who was accompanied by representative of WHO / PAHO, Manuel Pena, said that the meeting of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) on November 24 in Guayaquil (Ecuador) will constitute an adequate space for all South American countries strengthen the commitment for the purchase of these vaccines with the PAHO Revolving Fund.
"The owners of industry in South America have agreed to collectively purchase vaccines through the PAHO Revolving Fund. We hope to start their application against the new virus during the first months of 2010. "
For their part, representatives of WHO, from its headquarters in Washington, recommended to the countries of the region to undertake vaccination with health personnel (doctors, technicians and nurses), pregnant women and people older than 6 months with chronic illnesses.
