ST. PAUL — Minnesota reported 7,133 new coronavirus cases Tuesday, Oct. 5, the largest single-day tally of the year, but health officials said it was likely an undercount of new infections.
The new cases were diagnosed over the weekend and a technical delay resulted in not all newly identified infections being reported to the state Department of Health. The remaining cases will be included in Wednesday’s data report.
The state now releases new pandemic data on each business day and the data released Tuesday is through 4 a.m. Monday. Despite, health officials using a staggered reporting schedule since summer, Tuesday’s total is the largest of the year.
The latest cases were the result of nearly 105,000 coronavirus tests, also a daily high for 2021.
