Olmsted health alert issued over norovirus

The Post-Bulletin, Rochester MN

A health alert has been issued for long-term-care facilities in Olmsted County, asking staff to avoid all skin contact with residents' food.

The alert was issued after two local facilities reported an increase in norovirus, an easily spread illness with symptoms of vomiting, stomach pain and diarrhea.
...
"And this included both staff and residents," said Olmsted County Epidemiologist Stacy Sundve. Previously, a local middle school was affected.
...
Locally, norovirus has so far affected people from teenagers through retirement age, and recently working-age adults serving as caregivers.

"It's getting at everybody right now," Sundve said.

Possible Norovirus Outbreak in LeRoy

(ABC 6 News) -- It's a pretty nasty bug that can make you extremely sick and spreads quickly this time of year. That may have proven all too true for a wedding party in LeRoy this weekend.

Stomach cramps, dry heaves, vomiting; those are not the words you would normally associate with your daughter's wedding. That's exactly what Marcie Hall experienced after her daughter's wedding in LeRoy this weekend. And she wasn't alone.

"A couple of days after, people started getting sick. Flu-like symptoms. People are still continuing to get sick," said Hall.

There were around 400 guests at the reception, and Hall says most of them got sick. After visiting the local clinic, some members of Hall's family believe the culprit is the Norovirus.
...
Doctors have yet to confirm that was actually Norovirus. But now, the Minnesota Department of Health is involved. Pam Kellogg, with the Mower County Health and Human Services Department, isn't connected to the LeRoy incident. But she says that if it is Norovirus, more people could get sick.
