The Minnesota Department of Health documented the state's first flu death of the season, according to a report released on Thursday.
The MDH's Influenza & Respiratory Illness Activity Report shows one death associated with influenza has been recorded so far this season. The death occurred in a previous reporting week but appeared as a flu death for the first time in Thursday's report.

St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Minnesota has experienced another flu-related death. It was reported to the State Department of Health during the past week and was the second since the start of the current influenza season.
Overall flu activity in Minnesota is being categorized as "local" for a second straight week. The health department’s weekly update on flu activity does show a significant increase in the number of probable outbreaks reported by schools throughout Minnesota. The total for the past week was 18, compared with just 7 the previous week.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota health officials say an outbreak of early flu strains has contributed to the deaths of six people.
There were 60 cases of flu-like illness reported to the state last week, according to the Minnesota Department of Health. That's a five-fold increase from the week before.

The latest flu activity report from the Minnesota Department of Health lists seven total deaths associated with influenza this season, up from six last week. None have been pediatric deaths.

(ABC 6 News) - Minnesota has reported another flu death this season. The latest influenza activity report from the Minnesota Department of Health says there have been eight flu deaths so far, but no child deaths from flu are reported.

(FOX 9) - In a week, Minnesota saw the number of people who have died from the flu this season double, as the Department of Health has reported eight more deaths.
Health officials say the median age of death is 80 and none of the deaths have been children at this time. At long-term care facilities, outbreaks have spiked in recent weeks with six new outbreaks reported in the seven-day period ending on January 4. There have been a total of 15 outbreaks reported at long-term care facilities this season.
