​The Minnesota Department of Health has documented two new cases of measles in the Twin Cities area, according to a Monday news release. One case is an unvaccinated Dakota County child who was contagious while visiting Nickelodeon Universe in the Mall of America on May 24.

The second case is a Washington County adult who was exposed during travel within the United States. Their vaccination status is currently unknown. The child with measles has not traveled recently and does not have known exposures to the illness.

“Anytime we confirm a case of measles unrelated to travel that has no known source it is worrying,” said Jessica Hancock-Allen, infectious disease division director at MDH. “This is because it could be a sign that measles is spreading in the community undetected by public health and health care systems.”

MDH doesn’t yet know where the child was exposed and is working with local health officials to identify others who may have been exposed. These are Minnesota’s third and fourth known cases this year. MDH urged those who visited the Mall of America on May 24 to be aware of possible measles symptoms: fever, cough, runny nose, watery eyes, and a rash. Measles can lead to hospitalization and even death.​..

Three more measles cases have been reported in Minnesota in the past week.

The Minnesota Department of Health said the new cases all involved unvaccinated children who live in Dakota County. All three have also not traveled outside of the state in recent weeks.

Health officials are working with local health departments to contact people believed to have been exposed.

Thirteen measles cases have been identified over the past week in Minnesota, including a cluster of 10 cases in Dakota County and three separate cases among children exposed to the infectious disease during international travels.

The clusters raise the state’s measles case count to 18 for 2025, the fifth-highest total in at least 15 years, according to the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). None of the infected people in the latest clusters were vaccinated.​..

October 21, 2025 at 3:57PM​ A pediatric patient at Mayo Clinic was diagnosed with measles, exposing others at the Rochester medical campus to the infectious disease and raising Minnesota’s case count to 21 for the year.


Minnesota has now had its fifth-worst year since at least 1997 for measles, according to an update Tuesday by the state Department of Health. The highly infectious disease is increasing in Minnesota at the same time as the state’s vaccination rate is declining.


The unvaccinated preschooler was diagnosed after likely exposure to the infectious disease during international travel, according to a statement from Olmsted County. The statement didn’t identify the countries the child had visited.


The diagnosis occurred after the child had been around relatives as well as other Mayo patients and workers. A statement from Mayo said the health care provider’s personnel were working with public health officials to notify people who had been exposed...

Olmsted County confirms two more measles cases, three total for year
All three known measles cases in the county are "being closely monitored," Olmsted County Public Health Services said.

ROCHESTER — Olmsted County officials have confirmed two more local measles cases, bringing the county's total to three this year.

In an email statement to the Post Bulletin, Olmsted County Public Health Services said the two individuals with measles are known, unvaccinated contacts of the child whose measles case was reported Friday, Oct. 17.

All three cases are "being closely monitored," and the county health department is working with the Minnesota Department of Health "to identify and notify any individuals who may have been exposed," it said.​..
