During the week ending in November 2, 2013 (Week 44), surveillance indicators showed sporadic geographic spread of influenza. There were 3 influenza-related hospitalizations reported. Since the start of the influenza season, 0 pediatric (less than 18 years of age) influenza- related deaths have been identified. Influenza activity remains low.

There have been 3 hospitalizations this week and 11 total (to date); median age: 76.1 years.

Influenza activity continues to increase. Influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 has been the most commonly identified strain in Minnesota so far this season.

Here is the CDC report:

Four influenza-associated pediatric deaths were reported to CDC during week 29. Three deaths were associated with an influenza A virus for which no subtyping was performed and occurred during weeks 5, 18, and 23 (weeks ending February 1, May 3, and June 7, 2014). One death was associated with an influenza B virus and occurred during week 18 (May 3, 2014). A total of 105 influenza-associated pediatric deaths have been reported during the 2013-2014 season.
