Re: Minnesota 2011-2012 Flu Season: Weeks 40-27 (One Pediatric Death)

Week 27:
1 pediatric death; total 34 deaths (based on MMWR http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm6127md.htm?s_cid=mm6127md_w)

The weekly influenza and respiratory activity statistics will not be updated until October, 2012.

MDH conducts routine influenza surveillance during the months of October through May, but it is not uncommon for influenza to circulate outside those months at low levels. MDH recommends that for the months of June ? September, providers continue to test for influenza by PCR or viral culture methods if patients present with clinical symptoms of influenza.
