Re: Michigan - Outbreak of fungal meningitis - 164 cases and 8 deaths
Re: Michigan - Outbreak of fungal meningitis - 164 cases and 8 deaths
The MI and IN counts are getting confusing. One of the problems is that the IN Dept. of Health doesn't provide any kind of listing of cases or deaths. Even the announcements that they make to the media aren't available online. The latest information I can find shows IN with 6 deaths, the latest being from out-of-state, presumably MI. There's been no mention of any additional deaths.
Hopefully, when the CDC does an update on Monday, there will be some clarification and we can adjust the thread titles to show an accurate count.
This is the latest statement from the MI Dept. of Community Health:
As of November 21, 2012, Michigan's case count associated with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention multi-state meningitis investigation is 164 total cases and ten deaths [64 cases of meningitis, ten deaths*, 91 epidural abscess, one stroke and eight joint infections].
*One death associated with stroke, all others among patients counted as meningitis cases.
Additional details about the current Michigan deaths:
Livingston County - 75 year old woman
Livingston County - 50 year old woman
Ingham County - 88 year old woman
Charlevoix County - 81 year old woman
Wayne County - 64 year old woman
Livingston County - 79 year old woman
Washtenaw County - 62 year old man
Genesee County - 56 year old woman
Livingston County - 67 year old woman
Washtenaw County - 78 year old woman
*Three additional Michigan resident deaths are being counted as an Indiana cases as that's where treatment occurred.
