Michigan confirms first case of measles in 5 years

DETROIT – The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has confirmed the first case of measles in Michigan since 2019.

Authorities said they identified the case in an Oakland County child who had recently traveled internationally. MDHSS is working with the Oakland County Health Division and they do not believe there are additional exposures outside of the child’s home.​..

WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – Health officials are reporting Michigan’s second case of measles since the 2019 outbreak.

On Sunday, March 3, 2024, Wayne County Public Health confirmed a case of measles linked to international travel in an adult in the county. This case is not connected to the case of measles in an Oakland County child.​..

WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – The health department has confirmed a case of measles in Washtenaw County and is warning of a potential exposure spot at one local emergency department.

Washtenaw County health officials say the exposure possibly happened between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 1, in the waiting and triage areas at Trinity Health Ann Arbor Emergency Department, at 5301 McAuley Drive in Ypsilanti.

YPSILANTI (WWJ) - Washtenaw County Health officials confirmed a second case of measles on Thursday -- Michigan's fourth case so far this year -- after the patient was exposed to another case reported earlier in the month.​


The Washtenaw County Health Department said an adult without prior immunity to measles contracted the disease after being exposed to the initial case confirmed on March 3.

Officials are now alerting the public about the latest possible exposure and -- since the 72 hour window for immediate vaccine protection has passed -- warned individuals to monitor for symptoms of measles for up to 21 days if they were present at the following places at the specific times and dates listed:

Measles case confirmed in 4-year-old Detroit resident

(CBS DETROIT) - A 4-year-old Detroit resident was diagnosed with measles, health officials announced Wednesday.

The Detroit Health Department is alerting residents of the case and the exposure sites, including three healthcare facilities where the 4-year-old was taken for treatment.

No other cases have been confirmed in relation to this incident at this time, including with the child's family members, who are following isolation protocols.

Health officials say measles was suspected in the 4-year-old on April 3 and confirmed on April 9.

The following are the three locations where people may have been exposed:

Acadian Urgent Care, 2117 Springwells, Detroit, April 1, 12 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Rite Health Pharmacy, 5851 West Vernor, Detroit, April 1, 1:45 p.m. - 2 p.m.

Macomb County child with measles exposed others at motel, hospital

A Macomb County child has a confirmed case of measles and exposed others to the virus at a motel and a hospital emergency department as well as potentially other places across southeastern Michigan from June 24-July 2, state and Macomb County health officials said Friday.

The child was diagnosed with the highly contagious virus on July 3, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported. Anyone who was in the following places at the following dates and times is advised to contact the Macomb County Health Department or their medical provider and monitor for symptoms for 21 days after the exposure:

Motel 6, 8300 Chicago Road, Warren: June 26.
Children's Hospital of Michigan Troy emergency department, 350 W. Big Beaver Road, Troy: 1:30-4 p.m. June 30.​..

CBS DETROIT) - Health officials announced a case of measles has been confirmed in an adult who lives in Wayne County and is associated with international travel.
Wayne County adult diagnosed with measles

Wayne County Public Health said the individual is following isolation protocols. The county health department is working with state health officials to identify anyone who could have been exposed to this measles case.

The possible exposure locations include the following:

Michigan Medicine Canton Health Center Waiting Area at 1051 N. Canton Center Road
July 25 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
July 29 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Trinity Health IHA Urgent Care- Schoolcraft Campus at 19000 St. Joe's Parkway Suite 140 in Livonia
July 27 between 12 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Anyone at either of these locations during any of these times who is not fully vaccinated for measles or does not know their vaccine status should contact officials through the Wayne County Public Health form.​..
