Virus to be discussed at town-hall meetings


The Miami-Dade County Health Department will hold six town hall meetings around the county concerning preventive measures to avoid the H1N1 virus this flu season.

The first meeting is from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Miami Carol City Middle School, 3737 NW 188th St., Miami Gardens.

The second meeting will be from 10-11 a.m. Sept. 24 at the Miami Dade College North Campus in Room A-104 of the Science Complex, 11380 NW 27th Ave.

The Goodlet Theatre, 4200 West Eighth Ave., Hialeah, will host the third meeting from 6-7 p.m. Sept. 30.

The fourth meeting will be from 6-7 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Teatro Trail, 3713 SW Eighth St.

Meeting five will be at the Frankie Rolle Center, 3750 S. Dixie Hwy., from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 2.

The final town hall meeting will be from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Oct. 3, at the West Kendall Baptist Church, 14955 SW 88th St.

A community discussion with health authorities is an excellent tool to gain an alliance to manage community risks of illness. Hopefully many other communities will do the same.
