MI Officials Recommend Flu Vaccinations

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - State officials are urging people to use common sense to help combat seasonal and swine flu cases, including getting vaccinated.
Michigan officials held a press conference Tuesday to get the word out on the first day of school.
The seasonal flu vaccine is available now. It's being recommended for children between ages 6 months and 19 years, pregnant women, people age 50 and older, those with chronic medical conditions and nursing home residents.
The H1N1 vaccine is expected to be available by mid-October. High-priority groups such as those between ages 6 months and 24 years will be the first to receive it.
Michigan's superintendent wants schools to stay open during the flu season. Infected students shouldn't return to school until their fever has been gone 24 hours without medication.
