BARRY COUNTY, MI -- Mosquitos in Barry County have tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis, a disease than can cause illness and death in both horses and humans.
Staff with the Barry-Eaton District Health Department issued an advisory Thursday, July 6 about the discovery.
Samples of mosquitos were collected June 30 and later tested positive for EEE at a Michigan Department of Health and Human Services lab.
Barry County is the third Michigan county so far this year to show evidence of mosquito-borne diseases. EEE was detected in mosquitos in Bay County earlier this month and Jamestown Canyon virus in Saginaw County in June...
