Querétaro, October 23, 2023.- The Ministry of Health (SESA) announced 30 new confirmed cases of monkeypox in Querétaro.

From July 25, 2022 to October 23, 2023, 70 individuals were detected with probable symptoms of the disease.

Of this number, 30 have been confirmed, 36 ruled out and 4 are pending results.

The Institute for Epidemiological Diagnosis and Reference (InDRE) confirmed the presence of monkeypox in samples of skin lesions using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique.

Of the positive cases, all are men between the ages of 22 and 54.

The distribution of those affected corresponds to 25 in the municipality of Querétaro, three in Corregidora, one in San Juan del Río and one in El Marqués.

Likewise, one death was reported, while 29 people have been discharged.

Monkeypox, also known as monkeypox, lasts on average 21 days and is transmitted through direct contact with an infected person's secretions, respiratory droplets, and contaminated objects.

Sexual contact is one of the main forms of infection due to the proximity between individuals.

Close contact during these practices increases the possibility of transmission.

Recommendations for those caring for patients with monkeypox include properly washing the patient's clothing, towels, sheets, and utensils, as well as cleaning and disinfecting contaminated areas.
