Influenza on the rise in Yucatan, at 33%

Influenza is notably increasing in Yucatan, which is why it is currently among the six states with the highest incidence, revealed the federal Ministry of Health.

The most affected age groups are those from 25 to 29 years old, as well as from 20 to 24 years old and from 15 to 19 years old.
The median age is 28 years, the distribution by sex shows a predominance in women, 54 percent.
Of the total cases, 529 are of the AH3N2 viral subtype, while 105 are type A and three are type B.
The highest incidence is recorded in Jalisco, with 80 infected, 12.6 percent, followed by Querétaro, with 75 infected, 11.8 percent, as well as Nuevo León, with 65 positives, 10.2 percent, and Zacatecas, with 52 cases. , 8.2 percent.
Until epidemiological week number 32, this disease is absent in Campeche, Coahuila, and Durango, since last week, in Chiapas, the first two cases were detected.
In the case of Yucatan, there are already 36 infected, nine more than the previous week, so it is in sixth place in the national table, while in Quintana Roo there are eight infected.
Unfortunately, 17 deaths have already been registered, with four victims of this pathology being in Jalisco, two in Mexico City, Hidalgo, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas and Veracruz, respectively, while the rest are from Colima, Guerrero and the State of Mexico.

Mexico accumulates 40 deaths and 3,586 infections due to seasonal influenza

Mexico reported this Thursday a cumulative 3,586 positive cases and 40 deaths from seasonal influenza so far in the contagion season that began on October 3 and will end until May 21, 2023.

According to the weekly report on viral respiratory disease from the General Directorate of Epidemiology (DGE), at the beginning of this influenza season, the epidemic curve of cases was above the epidemic curves of the last five seasons, in addition to Currently, a high transmission has been registered.

In its weekly technical report, the Ministry of Health detailed that until December 8, 99,575 suspected cases of influenza were reported, of which 3,586 are confirmed.

The states with the most active cases of seasonal influenza are Nuevo León, with 413; Queretaro, 348; Zacatecas, 229; Aguascalientes, 201; Mexico City, 198; Puebla, 151; and Colima, with 142.

The states with the highest death records are Colima, Mexico City, Hidalgo, Jalisco and Puebla, all with three deaths.

In the 2022-2023 seasonal influenza season, 95% are due to AH3N2; 2.7% due to influenza A Not Subtypeable; 2% due to influenza AH1N1; 0.3%; due to influenza B.

In the cases of deaths, 97.5% are due to influenza AH3N2 subtype and 2.5% influenza A Not Subtypeable.

The most affected age groups per 100,000 inhabitants are 25 to 29 years old, with 4.2%; from 20 to 24, with 3.8%; children under 1 year of age, 3.4%; older than 65 years, 3.1%; 15 to 19 and 30 to 34 with 3%.

In the 2016-2017 season, 906 deaths from influenza were registered; in 2017-2018, 207 deaths; 2018-2019, thousand 602; 2019-2020, 727; 2020-2021, one; and 2021-2022, 152.
