Mexico sees a 400% increase of Dengue this year

The federal government of Mexico has not purchased insecticides to battle the mosquito that causes dengue, and deaths from the disease have increased by 250% this year alone.

During the first five months of 2019, 42 people have died due to dengue, when in 2018 there were 12 deaths due to this disease.

21,776 cases of dengue have been recorded so far, four times more than the previous year, when there were 5,711 confirmed cases in the first five months of 2018.

More than 8 thousand cases this year are listed as ?dengue with warning signs? and ?severe dengue?, this is twice the number of alarming or serious cases accumulated in 2018, according to the weekly epidemiological reports from the federal Ministry of Health.

Despite this, the federal authorities have not purchased any of the insecticides required for fumigation and control of this disease, transmitted by mosquito bites...

Dengue in Jalisco increases over 250% without federal suppport

The Ministry of Health of the state of Jalisco confirmed that, more than five months after the beginning of 2019, the federal authorities have not acquired or distributed the necessary insecticides to prevent epidemic outbreaks of dengue.

Juan Salvador Garc?a Hern?ndez, the coordinator of the state program to combat dengue in Jalisco, explained that this year the entity recorded a 256% increase in the incidence of dengue; despite this, the federal government has not sent them supplies to carry out preventive fumigations and, he added, has not officially informed them when they will be delivered, or if they will be delivered at all...

E n Mexico dengue deaths have increased 250% so far this 2019, which is alarming.

So far the most affected states are Chiapas, Jalisco, Tabasco, Quintana Roo and Veracruz.

In the last five months of 2019, cases of deaths caused by dengue have increased 250% compared to last year, however, the Mexican government has not acquired the necessary pesticides to fumigate the mosquitoes that transmit the disease, and thus be able to control it.

According to an investigation conducted by Mexicans Against Corruption and Impunity (MCCI), and the National Center for Preventive Programs and Disease Control that depends on the Ministry of Health, no money has been allocated for the acquisition of the necessary chemical substances , to attack epidemiological problems and prevent them from becoming a serious problem, despite having an available budget of 192 million 371 thousand pesos, to attack these problems and thus avoid becoming a serious problem.

However, it seems that the authorities have ignored the problem, despite statistics regarding the considerable increase in deaths caused by dengue this year.

This 2019 the obtaining of insecticides has been delayed. It is already the sixth month of the year and there are no records of movements in the Ministry of Finance to authorize the purchase of material that is extremely necessary to save lives.

Dengue fever caused 26 deaths in Morelos, Mexico, in 2019

Mexico, Jan 10 (Prensa Latina) Dengue fever caused the death of 26 people last year in the Mexican state of Morelos, the Director General of the state's Health Services, Hector Barona, confirmed Friday.

'In week 52, which was the last week of 2019, we had 1,420 confirmed cases of dengue: 393 non-serious cases, 953 with warning signs, 74 with severe dengue, and 26 deaths from this problem,' the official said.

He described 2019 an 'atypical year' because of the number of deaths, since far fewer people died from this disease in previous years.

'The dengue virus,' he warned, 'may have suffered a mutation, so that the insecticides themselves sometimes did not kill the mosquitos because of the mutation suffered, they became stronger, and perhaps a more potent product is needed.'..
