GARDEN VALLEY -- Mercy Ships has notified the Texas Department of Health that a confirmed case of H1N1 has been reported. The Smith County-based international relief agency says a staff member returning from a recent field service to the Dominican Republic has tested positive for the virus. According to a news release, "The staff of Mercy Ships International Operations Center in Garden Valley has been notified and is taking the necessary precautions to prevent further spread of the virus." Mercy Ships CEO Sam Smith says, "The person that was diagnosed is at home and doing well. Our medical personnel have spoken to the CDC, and they have confirmed that there are many cases in our region. Since this is not technically flu season, they now consider all positive flu cases H1N1."
