SIMFEROPOL, March 23 - RIA Novosti Crimea. Over the past few years, a trend has been outlined to reduce the incidence of tuberculosis in the Crimea. However, according to forecasts, in several years the situation may change for the worse and an epidemic of tuberculosis may develop. This information was provided by chief freelance specialist - phthisiatrician of the Crimean Ministry of Health Liliya Mamotenko at the press center of RIA Novosti Crimea.
"Over 9 years, the incidence of tuberculosis decreased by 50%, and mortality by 52%. But unfortunately, covid has made its adjustments: both covid and tuberculosis affect mainly the lungs, these two diseases can complicate the course of the disease, both one and the other," she said.
Mamotenko noted that the incidence of tuberculosis in Crimea is higher than in the Russian Federation as a whole.
"According to the WHO, in 2-3 years because of the covid pandemic, an increase in the incidence of tuberculosis is possible. The same assumption is in the speeches of the chief phthisiatrician of Russia Irina Vasilyeva," said Mamotenko
According to her, people who have had coronavirus infection are at risk, along with those who have a history of diabetes mellitus, chronic lung and gastrointestinal diseases, as well as HIV-infected.
The specialist recommended people in risk groups to be attentive to their health, to undergo examinations and medical examinations in time.
