The Origins of ThumbsUpus Erectus
Doctors and scientists through the ages have known about this rare disorder, and yet very few have ever had the opportunity to see the condition first hand, let alone treat a patient so stricken. The first historical reference to this disfigurement was discovered in wall paintings found in the Lascaux caves near La grotte Chauvet in the south of France. This primitive drawing from the Paleolithic era clearly shows a Neanderthal caveman suffering from the early symptoms of "ThumbsUpus Erectus".
The next fascinating display of this frightening physical disfigurement may be found along the scenic bluffs overlooking Boller Pool, near the present day city of Winona, Minnesota. Hundreds of stone carvings of gigantic erect thumbs may be seen in this area, ranging in height from twelve to twenty-six feet tall, each weighing several tons. Radiocarbon dating has placed these statues as having been created during the Mesozoic era, probably by one of the many primitive troglodyte clans that traveled through the Mississippi river valley near the end of the second glacial age.
Geologists theorize that receding glaciers created large alluvial plains and deposited enormous boulders, which cavemen then carved into religious thumb statues. They worshiped and paid tribute these mysterious stone idols in hopes of appeasing the gods they believed were responsible for the disease that appears to have wiped out their civilization - the disease we now know as "ThumbsUpus Erectus Obnoxious".
