Dinkes Medan selidiki strange disease

MEDAN - Head of Public Health (Dinkes) Kota Medan, Edwin Effendy, said his side will soon conduct a strange disease to befall the community.

"Reports from 39 health centers and 61 health centers at the city of Medan, strange disease that preceded a high fever, 3 to 7 days. After consuming febrifuge disease itupun recover, "he told Waspada Online, this afternoon.

Strangely, Edwin said, the disease is estimated to be infectious, because the patients came from the examined self-accompanied family, always family members that also fell ill, and even neighbors.

"Indeed we have received reports from each unit. That we receive from the findings in the. Some states already have, that states have not yet, "he said.

When viewed from some of the symptoms the patient, call Edwin, similar to the symptoms of acute infection Channels Penafasan (ISPA), and symptoms of the patient suspect bird flu in pigs. "It's only new assumption, and there are no results that can support the diagnosis is suspected," he said.

Edwin believes, outbreaks of high fever which attacked the city of Medan, occurred as the negative impact of climate change. In addition to high levels of pollution problems that arise due to forest fires, smoke and motor vehicle.

As anticipated, Edwin added, people are advised to have consumed water is white, clean and orderly life, and keep the surrounding environment.

"This new gejalannya. We can not ensure that incident. And can not be associated with the swine flu, "specifically.

Can not make hide nor hair out of the translation. Took the original to google and got the same translation.

Got any better notion just what it is saying?
Tried to run down ISPA but got no where.

Re: Medan Indonesia strange disease outbreak

It is from a blog, but the original comes from http://www.waspada.co.id/index.php?...an-selidiki-penyakit-aneh&catid=77&Itemid=131.

This is the toggletext version:

Section Head Kesehatan (dinkes) the Medan City, Edwin Effendy, said, his side will immediately carry out investigation towards the strange illness that fell on the community. ?From the report 39 community health centres and 61 auxiliary community health centres in the Medan city, the strange illness was preceeded by the high fever, 3 to 7 days. After consuming medicine penurun [something that causes a reduction, a lowering] hot the illness that too sembuh [to heal, cure],? he said to was on the alert Online, this afternoon.

Strangely, said Edwin, the illness could it was estimated spread, because from the patient who came memeriksakan [to examine, inspect] himself was accompanied by the family, always the family's same member took part in being attacked, in fact the neighbours. ?Memang [indeed, yes] we have received the report from each unit. That we received from the findings dilapangan. There are those that said has been available, there are those that said belum [not yet, maybe later],? he said. When being seen by his sign from several patients, mentioned Edwin, resembled the sign to the sufferer the Saluran Penafasan Akut Infection (ISPA), and the sign to the patient suspect pig flu. ?Itu [that] only just was limited by the assumption, and did not yet have results of the diagnosis that could support the assumption itu [this],? he said.

Edwin believe in, the plague of the fever that attacked the Medan inhabitants, happened as the impact of the change in the climate of the negative. Increased again by the problem of the height of the level of pollution that emerged resulting from forest fire, and the motor vehicles smoke. As anticipation, added Edwin, the community was suggested to increase consumed the pure water, the life was arranged and clean, as well as maintained the cleanliness of the environment around. ?Ini just gejalan him. We still could not ascertain the incident. And could not be connected with flu babi,? he stressed.

Re: Medan Indonesia strange disease outbreak

I tried everything I could think of. It seems there is an undiagnosed illness all over Medan, whose symptoms include fever for 3-7 days. I'm not exactly sure what ISPA is, but the I and the A are acute infection, and something else there was translated as Channels, so I'm guessing ISPA is something like acute respiratory infection. This is an official website, so this is not just rumors. They say the symptoms are simliar to H1N1 (bird flu in pigs). But they can't confirm what it is.

I don't like the sound of this at all.

Update: Thank you Commonground.

Re: Medan Indonesia strange disease outbreak

That was my guess. ISPA is acute respiratory infection. Hopefully this is just H1N1 cases. H1N1 is very widespread in Indonesia.

Re: Medan Indonesia strange disease outbreak

They have to test for H1N1, and ISPA. With all the illnesses in Indo, this is not alarming me.

How do you test for ISPA? Or is ISPA the name of a specific disease? I'm fairly sure that ISPA is not SARS or ARDS. If ISPA is just the term for acute respiratory infection, anything could cause ISPA, including H1N1 and H5N1.

Re: Medan Indonesia strange disease outbreak

I don't know how they test for it, it is acute respiratory infection. They are very knowledgable on the symptoms of H5N1, they've been dealing with it for years. There is no death mentioned, the fires they speak of are common this time of year. I'm not sure, without a map, if Medan is affected by those fires, which usually burn in Riau....or was it Sumatra?

Anyway, they seem to be concerned, and we do not have enough information right now. As you can see, they say "predeeded by the high fever". What are the following symptoms? I feel the spread would be one of the reasons for their alarm. Another reason would be if the medicine was not working. I'm not saying that it is not working. We will have to get more information.

?From the report 39 community health centres and 61 auxiliary community health centres in the Medan city, the strange illness was preceeded by the high fever, 3 to 7 days. Re: Medan Indonesia strange disease outbreak

OK. I do agree that the fact that they aren't reporting deaths is a good sign and probably rules out H5N1. But a governmental release saying they are concerned about a mystery disease is never a good sign, anywhere in the world. And that goes double for Indonesia.

We'll just have to keep a good eye on this one.

Update: Another flu forum has articles where ISPA is translated as "respiratory tract infection", (I guess "channels" was the translator's attempt at "tract"), so Commonground is right. ISPA is not the name of a specific disease.

Re: Medan Indonesia strange disease outbreak

One other good thing I see is that, they don't mention bird deaths.

Re: Medan Indonesia strange disease outbreak

From BFIC:

I see. Sometimes it happens because of air particles or maybe other pathogen. It?s common in this transitional season. I remember the similar cases happened in sulawesi and bali last year.

Re: Medan Indonesia strange disease outbreak

This time of year 2 things happen:

- change of season, people are more vulnerable for disseases

- forest fires, large scale , very large scale. Tropical forest is burned down - illegal .

Especially on Sumatra and Kalimantan a permanent haze envelops the land, sometimes airports are closed, sometimes even Malaysia gets the smoke ; many fall ill because of this.

For instance this report from MetroTV last Saterday. links leads to video.
