Measles outbreak kills 12 in Mozambique
Polo least 12 people died from a measles outbreak last week in a city in Mozambique, along the border with Malawi.
The District Director of Health, Women and Social Action Moatize Azelia Novel, said the outbreak erupted in late August and noted that immediately began a vaccination campaign in the town of Samoa lock, in the villages of Gunda, Mucthe, Tapadothi, areas where they were diagnosed the first cases of measles.
"Here in the center of the town these days Moatize had two children with signs of measles from the neighborhoods and Freedom on Sept. 25. One of the reasons for the outbreak, once we finished the vaccination campaign can be allied to the constant movement of the population to Malawi, because this country does not have this habit of the population vaccinated against measles, "said Novella.
The vaccination brigades are serving children from six months to 15 years old and currently is greater adherence by communities and everything indicates that it will reach a large number of children those ages.
The Moatize district currently has an adequate supply of vaccines to deal with cases of emergence of foci for interventions to prevent the immediate blocking of the outbreak spread to other parts of the district.
However, during the past year the district of Moatize recorded cases of measles in the villages of the administrative post of Z?bu?, which are located along the border with Malawi area where there have been 10 deaths in local communities.
