Measles: Katsina Records 501 Deaths
Katsina State has recorded 501 death from the outbreak of measles that ravages the state within the last five month.
The state commissioner for health, Alhaji Danlami Garba Musawa disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the activities of his ministry within the last 12 month.
Alhaji Garba noted that the frightening death figure has prompted the state government to jettison its immunisation drive throughout the state.
Prior to this, the commissioner revealed that the month of November this year has been slated by the ministry to embark on massive fight against the dreaded child killer disease.
According to him, the dreaded CSM has also left its trail of sorrow in the state with 105 deaths recorded from the 818 cases in the state.
However, the commissioner averred that appreciable progress has been recorded in the area of immunisation, where he said immunisation coverage centres have been increased from 549 centres to 1310 centres across the state.
On Malaria, Alhaji Garba opined that 49,000 insecticide treated mosquito nets worth N50 million were recently procured and distributed to mothers and children.
He therefore promised that the government would continue to do all within its powers to save lives through the provision of adequate and improved health care facilities in the state hospitals.
