YORK COUNTY, Maine —
Avian influenza has returned to Maine.
The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry's Animal Health Division says a small, non-commercial, non-poultry flock of birds in York County has tested positive for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza, also known as avian influenza.
It is the first positive test in a domestic flock in Maine since last spring.
State officials say birds from the flock of 60 started dying early this month, and deaths have continued. The remaining flock was quarantined and then put down, with the understanding of the owners...
