Md. School To Close Over Swine Flu Cases
POSTED: 3:24 pm EDT October 6, 2009
LAUREL, Md. -- St. Vincent Pallotti High School in Laurel has informed its students that it will be closed on Wednesday due to some confirmed cases of the H1N1 virus.
The closure includes all practices, games and evening activities.
On the school's Web site, Principal Stephen Edmonds said that the school has five confirmed cases of the H1N1 virus and that about 100 students were out of class on Tuesday for various reasons.
Edmonds said some of those 100 students have the seasonal flu and potentially the H1N1 virus, but since some doctors aren't testing for it, they won't know for sure.
He said the reported swine flu cases have not been any worse than the seasonal flu so far but that many students stayed home as a precaution.
The principal said the school will be professionally cleaned as a precaution on Wednesday and will be ready to reopen on Thursday.
Edmonds urged all students and parents to follow the guidelines that their nurse gave out if their child isn't feeling well.
