Mauritius records first case of 'chikungunya'
News - Africa news .Port-Louis, Mauritius - The Mauritian Minister of Health has set up an emergency committee to prevent the spread of chikungunya disease in the county after the first case was detected on the island late this week, official sources told PANA on Saturday. Maya Hanoomanjee said, however, that there was no epidemic of chikungunya, a viral disease spread by mosquitoes.

As a preventive measure, she said, the ministry had carried out insecticide spraying in several regions of the island.
