The Council of Ministers, meeting this Friday, May 22, noted that several suspected cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease have been reported at the Mare D'Albert Public School. The Ministry of Education and Human Resources has:

• informed the Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital and the Rose Belle Health Center of the situation;
• instructed the school to close this Friday and postpone the sports day scheduled at the Mare D'Albert football field;
• issued a statement informing the public of the exceptional closure of the school for health reasons; and
• arranged with the Ministry of Health and Wellness for healthcare professionals to visit the affected families.

Hand, foot, and mouth disease is a contagious viral infection that primarily affects infants and young children. It typically manifests as fever, mouth ulcers, and rashes on the hands, feet, and sometimes other parts of the body.

In most cases, the disease is mild and heals spontaneously within a few days, but good hand hygiene and isolation of infected people are recommended to limit its spread.
